My name is John Kucera and I am the 7-12 Counselor at High Plains Community School.  I spent the last 14 years right here in the High Plains Community School District.  My first 8 years was spent as the Business teacher and the last 6 years has been as the K-12 Counselor.  I grew up in Kearney and am a graduate of Kearney High School.  Upon graduation, I attended The University of Nebraska at Kearney where I played football and threw for the track team.   As an undergraduate student, I double-majored in Sports Administration and Business Marketing and Management.  After several years in the private sector I went back to school and received my education degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  I recently received my Masters Degree in school counseling from Chadron State College.  Currently I reside in Lincoln. I have one amazing daughter who is a Marketing and Advertising student at The University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Hello! My name is Megan Bruce and I am the K-6 School Counselor at High Plains Community School District. This will be my first year as an Elementary School Counselor. I grew up in Dwight, NE, and went to East Butler up to my Junior year. I transferred to David City Public where I graduated from. I attended Columbus Central Community College where I was a member of the Women’s Basketball Team, Spectrum Choir Group, Community Choir, Community Band, and Hilltop Winds Small Ensemble. I graduated with my Associate of Arts degree and continued my education at Wayne State College. I received my bachelor’s degree in Human Services and Counseling and continued my education and received my master’s degree in K-12 School Counseling. I currently reside in Utica with my husband, my dogs Dex and Henry, and my cat Dee Dee. I am excited to be a part of the HPC family!
